The television compound built by Gearhouse in only ten days houses all technical facilities, CCU, on air slo-mo, logging, media management, scoring, radio cameras, engineering support, robotics, CAR, MCR, QC, production galleries and audio control. Then, in a separate building, are the unilaterals for broadcast partners which include ESPN, Channel 7, Wowow, SKY NZ, EuroSport and Sports Bet which between them boast over 150 fibre lines, 2500 splices, 9km of cable and over 30 feeds to a satellite farm all linked to the host, central patch room and studios.

Gearhouse Broadcast, a worldwide broadcast services specialist, has delivered a range of facilities to ESPN to enable its live coverage of this summer’s World Cup. The leading US sports broadcaster is showing all 64 matches of the month-long tournament across three networks ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. Operating within the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Rio de Janeiro, Gearhouse is receiving the host feed from HBS, as well as domestic and international feeds from ESPN’s studio located on Copacabana Beach. The feeds are then distributed and monitored internally within the IBC facility and transported to ESPN’s main broadcast studios in Bristol, Connecticut.

After competing in a fully competitive tendering process, Gearhouse Broadcast’s Projects Solutions division was awarded the contract to build a series of interconnecting Flyaway pods for broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting for their coverage of Formula 1 motor racing.
